Making music. Bringing its world within reach.

Shohei Koga is a musician working across lyrics, composition, arrangement and guitar. Moving between his own projects, YOURNESS and souzoucity, and songs for other artists, he gives musical form to the possibilities within voices and words.

His credits include work with Maaya Sakamoto, Tokoyami Towa, Nornis, Kiyono Yasuno and Ichika Souya. His contribution follows each work’s needs, from composition and arrangement to performance and recording direction.

As a guitarist, he also welcomes recording and live support enquiries. From a song’s texture to its sound on stage, the performance can be shaped around the music and the setting.

At the heart of his work is the character within a voice and its words. Which melody carries the feeling? Which sound brings a scene to mind? Listening to small tensions and lingering notes, he searches for the shape of each song.

When writing for someone, he looks for the place where their voice feels both natural and memorable. He listens to their words and instincts, finding an image together before it has fully taken shape. That shared process is part of the work.

He also considers how the music will meet its audience. Directing music videos and visuals is a continuation of that same imagination. In conversation with creators from different disciplines, he helps a work’s world grow.

He aims to make work that stays with the listener: a song recalled in an ordinary moment, or heard differently in a new setting. Music that finds a place in each person’s own time.

souzoucity is the creative name that connects Shohei Koga’s practice: a place centred on music, where people and ideas meet and new work begins.

Another landscape beyond the music.

YOURNESS is a music project with songs created by Shohei Koga. Words, melodies and detailed sound come together to build a world between music and moving images.

From “Kago no Naka ni Tori” and “Hideriame” to “Watashi no Saigo no Hi,” each work explores a different expression. Music videos and cover art are part of how that music reaches its audience.

That world is also opening towards 3DCG. Through YxRE, a new presence within it, another landscape beyond the music begins to emerge.

souzoucity has two roles: the name connecting Shohei Koga’s creative practice, and one of his own music projects. This section introduces the original music project.

Welcoming different voices and musicians from work to work, the project makes room for distinct sensibilities to meet. Guided by Koga’s creative perspective, it seeks places that collaboration can reveal.

Like the ideas of imagination and a city within its name, it is a place for sounds, words, people and ideas to cross paths. Its releases include “Poporiru,” “Aigatari na Itte” and “Itsunomanika.”
